The Trail Mix Trials
Feeding an Addiction or Feeding Your Face?

I Hear What You’re Sayin’ …

But I’m just not feelin’ it.

I have Google news alerts set to the search term “trail mix.”  Occasionally I glean a story idea or special offer (i.e. previous post) from them.

As of late a plethora of stories on substituting candy with trail mix as a healthy Halloween treat have been popping up in some way, shape or form.

While I get that shoving boatloads of candy down your throat is not the most nutritional option, let the kids be kids.  Also – would you really let your kids eat un-packaged. homemade treats from strangers?  I wouldn’t.

Kids are being stripped of all the harmless delights with which we grew up.  They can’t drink out of the garden hose, they can’t walk to school alone, they can’t ride their bikes after dark … if they can’t eat candy on Halloween, we might as well just move the official age of adulthood to 12.

Candy and Halloween are synonymous.  Like any thing else if it is eaten in moderation on this special occasion, it likely won’t do any harm.  Save the trail mix for a healthy snack after school or in a school lunch, but on Oct. 31 LET THEM EAT CANDY!

For the record, the trail mix recipes in this article do sound good and are likely worth a trial, just not on Halloween.
